10 July 2003

4,000 miles.
Seven states.
Herds of buffalo and elk.
Two moose and quite a few mule deer, bulls included.
Two of the famed Yellowstone Druid wolf pack.
A pair of black bears, four grizzlies, two with a pair of cubs, with one of those grizzlies showing up about 30 feet behind us on the last trail we hiked -- yikes.
Native and cowboy cultures still rife with tension.
Log cabin bed and breakfasts and interstate salad bars.
Towns with a population of four.
Forty degree nights and ninty degree days.
Elevations of 6,000 to 10,000 feet.
Camping in tornado alley thunderstorms.
Swerving around wildlife, cursing diesel pick-up trucks with racks.
Errantly travelling home on the July 4th weekend.
Period of adjustment in progress. More to come.
