earth day bloody earth day

"At the moment the United States uses about one-third of all the raw materials consumed each year. Think of it: less than 1/15th of the population of the world requires about five times its 'fair share' to maintain its inflated position...."

We are 5% of the world’s population yet we consume 33% of it's natural resources.

The freedoms of the constitution were written to allow the coexistence of 4,000,000 people. Now with 270,000,000 we struggle to ensure our freedoms are still guaranteed while our resources are limited and our responsibilities have increased. This means freedom become less about individual freedom, more about responsibility that guarantees freedom for all.

The great paradox of the constitution is that while it guarantees freedom and equality in the pursuit of happiness, what happens when those guarantees cannot be upheld because of their own successes? That’s why our forefathers built in the ability to adapt, change, or revolt.

We must devote ourselves to "rethinking basic assumptions," and recognize that much of the damage we do to the natural world stems from our unquestioning faith in the ideology of unlimited economic growth.
